Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick “Tito” Maswanganyi has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Egyptian giants Pyramids FC, with claims that the club has opened advanced talks over a possible move.
According to the reports circulating, Pyramids FC are believed to have made a formal request regarding Maswanganyi following the appointment of South African coach Rulani Mokwena. The reported interest has immediately raised questions among Orlando Pirates supporters, particularly after Maswanganyi was not involved in the Buccaneers’ match against Sekhukhune United.
However, it is important to stress that the transfer claims have not been officially confirmed by Orlando Pirates, Pyramids FC or Maswanganyi at the time of writing.
Maswanganyi has been an important player for Pirates since joining the club in 2023. The attacking midfielder, affectionately known as Tito, has become recognised for his creativity, technical ability and capacity to influence matches in the final third. Orlando Pirates’ official profile lists him as a midfielder and records 119 appearances, 28 goals and 18 assists for the club across competitions. (Orlando Pirates FC)
The timing of the rumours has therefore attracted plenty of attention. Maswanganyi had been receiving strong backing from Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who recently praised the midfielder’s quality and highlighted the important role he has to play following Relebohile Mofokeng’s departure. Pirates were scheduled to face Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 semi-final first leg on Saturday, 22 August, making Maswanganyi’s absence particularly noticeable. (The South African)
Could there be more behind his absence? Is Pyramids FC genuinely preparing a move for the South African international?
For now, supporters will have to wait for official confirmation. If the reported interest develops into a formal transfer proposal, it could become one of the most talked-about moves of the current window.
Tito to Egypt? The story is certainly one to watch.
