DEANO VAN ROOYEN TO SUNDOWNS?

Mamelodi Sundowns could potentially explore the possibility of signing Deano van Rooyen as they deal with an injury setback involving Khuliso Mudau.

Mudau’s absence leaves the Brazilians needing to carefully manage their options at right-back, particularly with a demanding domestic and continental schedule ahead. While Sundowns have depth within their squad, the availability of an experienced player on a free transfer could present an interesting opportunity for the club.

Van Rooyen is currently a free agent after leaving Orlando Pirates. The right-back has valuable experience in the Premier Soccer League and has competed at the highest level of South African football. His time at Pirates also exposed him to the pressure that comes with playing for one of the country’s biggest clubs.

For Sundowns, the potential attraction would be clear. Signing a free agent could allow the club to strengthen its defensive options without necessarily having to negotiate a transfer fee with another club. Van Rooyen’s familiarity with the PSL could also mean less time is required for him to adjust to the intensity and demands of the competition.

However, there is currently no official confirmation that Sundowns have made an approach for the defender. The suggestion of a possible move remains a topic for discussion, particularly because of Mudau’s injury situation and Van Rooyen’s availability.

Sundowns are known for maintaining strong competition for places throughout their squad, and adding another experienced right-back could give the coaching staff another option during a busy campaign.

Whether Van Rooyen becomes a genuine target remains to be seen, but his status as a free agent makes him a player worth monitoring.

Could Deano van Rooyen be the answer to Sundowns’ right-back situation?
