Sekhukhune United head coach Cedric Kaze has reflected on his side’s narrow defeat to Orlando Pirates, admitting that conceding just before halftime made the task more difficult for his team.
The decisive moment came in the 43rd minute when Deon Hotto found the back of the net to give Orlando Pirates the lead shortly before the interval. The timing of the goal was particularly frustrating for Sekhukhune, who had worked hard to remain competitive during the opening half.
Kaze’s side returned from the break with a much-improved performance. Sekhukhune United showed greater control and began to dictate large periods of the game, creating opportunities as they searched for an equaliser.
Despite their improvement and increased possession, however, the hosts were unable to turn their pressure into a goal. Orlando Pirates defended their advantage and managed to see out the result.
Speaking after the match, Kaze highlighted the importance of the timing of the opening goal.
“We conceded at a bad moment, just before halftime. After that, we controlled the game and created moments, but unfortunately we couldn’t get the goal we needed,” Kaze said.
The coach’s comments underline the fine margins that can decide matches at this level. Sekhukhune showed character by improving after halftime, but their inability to convert their chances ultimately proved costly.
For Orlando Pirates, the victory will provide confidence, while Sekhukhune will now have to focus on taking the positives from their second-half performance and improving their finishing in future matches.
Kaze will be hoping his players can respond positively in their next fixture and turn promising performances into results.
