Orlando Pirates star Tito Maswanganyi is finally leaving the Buccaneers

Orlando Pirates playmaker Patrick “Tito” Maswanganyi is reportedly closing in on a move away from the Buccaneers, with Bahrain emerging as his potential next destination. According to reports, the 28-year-old midfielder has been left out of the Pirates squad for their recent MTN8 clash against Sekhukhune United as talks over a possible move abroad progress.

The development comes as a surprise considering the important role Maswanganyi appeared set to play for Pirates this season. Following the departure of Relebohile Mofokeng to Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou publicly backed Maswanganyi to take on greater creative responsibility within the team. Ouaddou described the midfielder as a key player and praised his intelligence, technical ability and capacity to link the midfield with the attack.

Maswanganyi has enjoyed a successful spell with Orlando Pirates since joining the club in 2023. During his time in the famous black-and-white colours, he established himself as one of the team’s creative outlets and earned significant individual recognition, including the Players’ Player of the Season award, DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament during the 2023/24 campaign.

The midfielder was also among Pirates’ standout performers during the closing stages of the 2025/26 season, scoring two goals and providing an assist in May as the Buccaneers completed a memorable domestic treble.

If the reported Bahrain transfer is completed, it would represent another major chapter in Maswanganyi’s career and a new challenge outside South Africa. A move to the Gulf could provide the playmaker with valuable international experience while also offering him the opportunity to continue developing his career abroad.

For Orlando Pirates, however, losing Maswanganyi would create another important gap in an attacking department already reshaped by Mofokeng’s departure.

At this stage, the identity of the Bahrain club has not been officially confirmed, and the transfer should be treated as a developing story. Supporters will be watching closely for further confirmation as negotiations continue.
