Lebohang Maboe has withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana camp after suffering an ankle injury. The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder picked up the injury while representing his club and has subsequently been ruled out of the current international window.
Maboe has been replaced in the Bafana Bafana squad by Tshepang Moremi.
The news will come as a major disappointment to Maboe, who earned his national-team call-up after producing a consistent run of performances for Kaizer Chiefs. His return to the Bafana Bafana setup was a significant moment, particularly considering the midfielder’s previous struggles with injuries.
Since returning to action, however, Maboe has shown encouraging consistency. He has remained an important player for Kaizer Chiefs, contributing with his experience, work rate and ability to operate effectively in midfield. His performances had earned him another opportunity at international level, making this latest setback particularly frustrating.
For Kaizer Chiefs, the extent of the injury will now be closely monitored. The club’s midfield options are already facing pressure, meaning a lengthy absence for Maboe could create another challenge for the technical team.
At this stage, the priority is for Maboe to receive the appropriate medical assessment and rehabilitation. Supporters will be hoping that the ankle problem is not serious and that he can return to training and competitive action as soon as it is safe to do so.
It is undoubtedly disappointing to see him leave the Bafana Bafana camp after earning his place through his performances. However, if the injury proves to be short-term, there is every reason to believe that Maboe can work his way back into contention for future national-team selections.
Wishing Lebza a speedy recovery. 🇿🇦💪🏽
Get well soon, Lebohang Maboe! ❤️💛
