PETERSEN FEELS THE DIFFERENCE AFTER MZOUGHI EXIT 😳💔
Brandon Petersen’s recent struggles at Kaizer Chiefs have raised serious questions among Amakhosi supporters, with many now looking back at the period when goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi was working closely with the Chiefs captain.
Petersen enjoyed one of his best periods last season, keeping an impressive 18 clean sheets across all competitions. Mzoughi was widely credited with helping the goalkeeper regain confidence and consistency.
However, everything changed after Mzoughi left Naturena following the technical-team changes. Fernando da Cruz arrived with his own backroom staff, including goalkeeper coach Olivier Sorin.
There is now growing debate over whether Petersen is receiving the same type of coaching and support that helped him reach his best level under Mzoughi.
The difference has been noticeable this season. Petersen has struggled for consistency, with costly mistakes against Golden Arrows and Richards Bay putting him under intense pressure. He has also lost his place in the latest Bafana Bafana preliminary squad.
Petersen had previously spoken very highly of Mzoughi, describing him as someone who backed the goalkeepers, demanded hard work and constantly reminded them that they should aim to be the best in the country.
Former Chiefs goalkeeper William Shongwe has also questioned whether Chiefs made the right decision by allowing Mzoughi to leave, arguing that the Tunisian had developed a strong relationship with Petersen and the other goalkeepers.
The big question now is whether Petersen can rediscover the form that made him one of Chiefs’ standout performers last season — or whether the change in goalkeeper coaching has played a bigger role than many initially realised. 👀🧤
Amakhosi fans, do you think Petersen needs Mzoughi back? 💛✌️
