Rele back to Orlando??

Orlando Pirates could be considering a sensational move to bring Relebohile Mofokeng back to the club, with reports suggesting that the Buccaneers have prepared a bid to re-sign their former star.

Mofokeng completed his move from Pirates to Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in 2026 after the two clubs reached an agreement for his transfer. Pirates officially confirmed the agreement on 1 July, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding the highly rated South African youngster.

The possibility of a return would undoubtedly create excitement among the Pirates faithful. Mofokeng developed into one of the club’s most influential young players and played a major role in their successful campaign before making the move to Europe. The club itself revealed that the player had previously turned down the opportunity to leave earlier, choosing instead to remain at Pirates and help the team fight for the league title.

A potential reunion could also signal Pirates’ desire to strengthen their attacking options with a player who already understands the club’s culture, expectations and supporters. Mofokeng’s creativity, pace, technical ability and confidence made him a standout performer during his time in South Africa.

However, bringing him back would not be straightforward. The 21-year-old has only recently started his European adventure, having joined Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a four-year deal. Any attempt by Pirates to re-sign him would therefore likely require negotiations with the Belgian club and potentially a significant financial commitment.

For now, the reported bid should be treated as a developing story rather than a completed transfer. There has been no official confirmation from Orlando Pirates or Mofokeng that a return is imminent.

Nevertheless, if Pirates were genuinely able to bring their former star back to Soweto, it would be one of the most remarkable transfer stories in South African football. Mofokeng’s return would instantly capture the attention of the Ghost and could provide the Buccaneers with a familiar attacking weapon as they look to build another competitive squad.
