Deon Hotto reveals two possible destinations after Orlando Pirates exit

Deon Hotto’s future has become one of the talking points among South African football supporters, with questions continuing to surround where the experienced Namibian international could continue his career if he decides to leave Orlando Pirates.

The 35-year-old has built a strong reputation during his time in the Premier Soccer League, having previously represented Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic and Bidvest Wits before joining Pirates in 2020. He has since become one of the club’s experienced campaigners. 

But the biggest question is not only whether Hotto will leave Pirates — it is where he could go next. The possibility of the veteran remaining in South Africa has already sparked plenty of discussion, particularly because two of the country’s biggest clubs could potentially enter the picture.

According to the interview statement you provided, Hotto has revealed that if he remains in South Africa, his preferred destinations would be Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns. He is quoted as saying: “I would like to join Kaizer Chiefs since it’s also the biggest club in SA, or Mamelodi Sundowns. Those are my two clubs that I might go to if I don’t leave SA.”

A move to either club would certainly create a major storyline in South African football. Hotto has already faced both sides numerous times during his PSL career, and he has previously spoken highly of competing against the biggest teams in the country. In fact, when he joined Pirates, he explained that facing clubs such as Chiefs and Sundowns was part of what motivated him as a player. 

For Chiefs, bringing in a player with Hotto’s experience could add another experienced option to their squad, while Sundowns would represent an equally ambitious destination for a player who has spent more than a decade playing professional football in South Africa.

However, it is important to distinguish between Hotto expressing his preferred destinations and an actual transfer agreement. At this stage, the statement does not by itself confirm that either Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns have made an offer.

The coming weeks could therefore be very interesting. If Hotto does decide that his next chapter will remain in South Africa, supporters may have to wait and see whether he eventually chooses Amakhosi, Masandawana, or another destination entirely.
