Mbokazi Could Return From Injury Earlier Than Expected

Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter has provided an encouraging update on the injury recovery of Mbekezeli Mbokazi, revealing that the South African defender could potentially return to action earlier than initially expected.

Mbokazi is currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme as he works his way back to full fitness. While there is still no confirmed date for his return, Berhalter says the defender is progressing well and there remains a possibility that he could feature before the end of the season.

“He’s in a rehab program now and he’s progressing. There’s no exact timeframe for when he’s going to be back, but there is a possibility it is before the end of the season,” Berhalter said.

The update will come as positive news for both Chicago Fire and supporters of the South African national team. Mbokazi has established himself as an exciting defensive talent, and a return to competitive football before the end of the campaign would give him an opportunity to regain his rhythm and match fitness.

For Bafana Bafana, his potential return could also be significant. If Mbokazi makes a quicker-than-expected recovery and performs strongly for Chicago Fire, his form could put him back into consideration for national-team selection.

With South Africa continuing to prepare for important international commitments, the defender will be hoping to recover fully and return to the pitch without setbacks.

For now, there is no confirmed comeback date, but Berhalter’s latest comments suggest that Mbokazi’s recovery is moving in the right direction. A return before the end of the season could potentially open the door for the young defender to make another appearance in the Bafana Bafana setup before the end of the year.
