Sebastian Pedersen’s wait for his Orlando Pirates debut continues, with the club’s technical team taking a cautious approach to ensure that the Norwegian defender is physically ready before being introduced to competitive action.
Pedersen joined Orlando Pirates with expectations surrounding his arrival, but supporters have yet to see him feature in an official match for the Buccaneers. Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has now provided an explanation for the delay, confirming that the player is not yet operating at full fitness.
“He is not 100%,” Ouaddou told reporters, highlighting that Pedersen still requires additional work before he can be considered fully prepared for first-team football.
The Pirates coach also revealed that the club’s performance department is closely involved in the player’s preparation. “The performance department is working closely with him to have him fully ready,” Ouaddou explained, suggesting that the club is prioritising a gradual return rather than rushing the defender into action.
Pedersen’s lack of recent competitive football appears to be an important factor. His most recent official appearance came on July 3, when he played 53 minutes for Sogndal against Kongsvinger in the Norwegian First Division. The lengthy period without competitive action means that the defender needs time to rebuild his match fitness and adapt physically to the demands of his new environment.
For Orlando Pirates, patience could be particularly important at this stage of the season. Introducing a player before he reaches the required fitness level could increase the risk of injury and potentially delay his progress even further.
While supporters are understandably eager to see Pedersen in the famous black-and-white colours, the message from the technical team is clear: his debut will come when he is ready.
The club will therefore continue working with the defender behind the scenes, with the performance department monitoring his progress and helping him reach the necessary physical standards.
For now, Pirates fans will have to wait a little longer. Pedersen’s absence is not necessarily a sign of a problem with his future at the club, but rather an indication that Orlando Pirates want to ensure their new player is fully prepared before giving him his first opportunity on the pitch.
Once he reaches 100%, the expectation will be that Pedersen can finally begin showing Pirates supporters what he can bring to the team.
