Aden McCarthy Could Make Kaizer Chiefs Return If Sabah FC Spell Fails
Aden McCarthy’s future could become an interesting talking point for Kaizer Chiefs supporters if the young defender struggles to establish himself at Sabah FC.
McCarthy left Kaizer Chiefs in June 2026 to join the Azerbaijani club after an impressive breakthrough season at Naturena. The 22-year-old made 31 appearances in all competitions for Amakhosi before securing his move to Europe.
However, if McCarthy eventually finds himself short of regular game time at Sabah FC, a return to Kaizer Chiefs could potentially become an option in the future. Regular football will be particularly important for the defender as he looks to continue developing and remain in the Bafana Bafana picture.
At this stage, though, there is no confirmed indication that McCarthy is set to return to Kaizer Chiefs. His move to Sabah was a permanent transfer, with the Azerbaijani club confirming a three-year contract with an additional one-year option.
That means any potential return would likely depend on circumstances such as the player’s development, his playing opportunities and whether both clubs could eventually reach an agreement.
For Chiefs, McCarthy could still be a familiar and potentially valuable option. He proved his versatility during his time at Naturena, featuring both at centre-back and left-back.
For now, the defender’s priority will be to establish himself in Azerbaijan. But if regular football remains difficult to find and his contract situation changes in the future, the possibility of seeing McCarthy back in the famous gold and black could certainly spark plenty of discussion among Amakhosi supporters.
Would Kaizer Chiefs fans welcome Aden McCarthy back at Naturena?
