Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder Junior Khanye has tipped young defender Lebone Seema for a bright future in the national team, going as far as suggesting that the talented centre-back could eventually become a captain of Bafana Bafana.

Khanye believes Seema has the qualities needed to establish himself at international level and has called for the youngster to be given an opportunity to prove himself alongside some of South Africa’s most promising defenders.
“I can say Lebone Seema is a future Bafana Bafana player, (or) even captain,” Khanye said.
The former footballer explained that he would particularly like to see Seema form a centre-back partnership with Mbekezeli Mbokazi. According to Khanye, combining the two young defenders could provide Bafana Bafana with a strong foundation for the future.
Khanye also outlined the defensive setup he would like to see, mentioning Khuliso Mudau and Aubrey Modiba as part of the backline. His comments reflect a desire to see younger players given opportunities to grow together at international level rather than relying exclusively on established names.
The former midfielder did not stop there. Khanye also suggested that goalkeeper Sipho Chaine deserves an opportunity between the posts for Bafana Bafana, while Teboho Mokoena could operate in front of the defence.
“I would love to see that and maybe give Sipho Chaine a chance in goals at Bafana with Teboho Mokoena playing in front of them just once,” he added.
Khanye believes experimenting with this combination could reveal something special for the national team.
“I’m sure there is something there and I’m sure Pitso Mosimane is listening and will do that,” he concluded.
His comments have sparked debate among South African football supporters, particularly around whether Seema and Mbokazi could become a long-term defensive partnership for Bafana Bafana.
With South Africa continuing to build towards the future, opportunities for emerging talent could prove crucial. If Seema continues developing and performing consistently, Khanye’s prediction of a future Bafana Bafana captaincy could become a very interesting storyline to follow.
