Kaizer Chiefs could be preparing for a significant new chapter as club legend Itumeleng Khune is reportedly set to take up the role of goalkeeping coach, working alongside Doctor Khumalo, who is expected to lead the technical team as interim head coach.
Khune remains one of the most recognisable figures in the history of Amakhosi. Having spent many years representing the club, the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper understands the pressure, expectations and responsibilities that come with wearing the famous black-and-gold jersey. His potential return in a coaching capacity would represent an opportunity to bring his experience and knowledge back to Naturena.
As a goalkeeper, Khune built a reputation for his outstanding reflexes, leadership, confidence and ability to produce important saves under pressure. These qualities could prove valuable in helping develop the club’s current goalkeepers, particularly during a period when Kaizer Chiefs are looking to improve their performances and restore confidence within the squad.
Working alongside Doctor Khumalo would also bring together two figures who understand the culture and history of the club. Khumalo’s football intelligence and experience, combined with Khune’s goalkeeping knowledge, could provide valuable guidance to the players if the reported appointments materialise.
For supporters, the possibility of seeing former club heroes return to help rebuild the team would undoubtedly generate excitement. Chiefs have a proud history, and the expectations from their supporters remain high. Improving consistency, strengthening the team’s mentality and developing players will be essential priorities for the technical team.
However, the success of any potential appointment will ultimately depend on the work done on the training ground and the results achieved on matchdays.
IMPORTANT: The reported agreement has not been independently verified. Supporters should wait for an official announcement from Kaizer Chiefs before treating the appointment as confirmed.
If confirmed, Khune’s return could mark an important moment for Amakhosi as the club looks to rebuild, restore its winning mentality and compete strongly again. 💛🖤
