Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has called on young forward Langelihle Phili to continue developing his game after an improved second-half performance that was capped by a goal.

Da Cruz acknowledged Phili’s contribution in front of goal but stressed that the youngster must continue working on other aspects of his game, particularly his ability to retain possession and provide an outlet for the team when Chiefs regain the ball.
“First of all, I would like to see him continue to score goals,” Da Cruz said.
The coach also pointed out that Phili struggled to maintain possession during the first half, especially during periods when Chiefs were required to defend for long spells.

“When we defend a lot like today, I would like that when we recover the ball, he is able to keep the ball to support the team, as in the first half he lost a lot of balls.”
However, Da Cruz was encouraged by the forward’s response after the interval, highlighting the improvement in his overall contribution.
“But in the second half, he was way better as he was able to support the team, and I’m very pleased that he scored.”
The comments underline the expectations placed on Phili as he continues to establish himself within the Kaizer Chiefs setup. For Da Cruz, the focus is not only on goals but also on ensuring that the young attacker understands his responsibilities within the team’s tactical structure.
The Chiefs coach believes improvement will come gradually as Phili becomes more familiar with his demands and the club’s playing philosophy.
“It will be better step by step.”
Phili’s goal will provide confidence, but Da Cruz’s assessment makes it clear that there is still significant room for growth. The youngster will now be expected to build on his improved second-half display, sharpen his decision-making and become more consistent in possession.
With continued development and greater understanding of the tactical demands, Phili has an opportunity to become an increasingly important player for Kaizer Chiefs.
