Mamelodi Sundowns are preparing for a crucial continental assignment as they travel to Angola to face Wiliete SC in the second preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League. The highly anticipated encounter will take place on Sunday, 18 October 2026, with both teams determined to secure an advantage ahead of the return leg.
The Brazilians enter this encounter with significant expectations as the reigning African champions. Having established themselves as one of the continent’s most competitive clubs, Sundowns will be eager to demonstrate their quality and take another important step towards defending their prestigious title.
However, Wiliete SC should not be underestimated. The Angolan outfit earned their place in this round after defeating Foresters FC of Seychelles 5-0 on aggregate. Their impressive performance demonstrates their attacking potential and determination to compete against stronger opposition.
Playing at home could provide Wiliete with an important advantage, particularly with the support of their supporters behind them. The Angolan side will be hoping to frustrate Sundowns, capitalise on scoring opportunities and put pressure on the visitors throughout the encounter.
For Sundowns, discipline, concentration and clinical finishing will be essential. Head coach Miguel Cardoso will understand the importance of securing a positive result away from home before the decisive second leg in South Africa.
The Tshwane giants possess valuable continental experience, but they must translate that experience into a strong performance on the pitch. Any defensive mistakes could prove costly against an ambitious opponent eager to make a statement.
Ultimately, this encounter represents more than just another football match. It is an opportunity for Sundowns to reinforce their status among Africa’s elite, while Wiliete have an opportunity to challenge the defending champions and move closer to their dream of reaching the group stages.
All eyes will be on Angola as two ambitious clubs battle for continental progress. Can Sundowns take control of the tie, or will Wiliete produce a memorable performance on home soil? 🇿🇦⚽🔥
