The Real Reason Thabo Cele Reportedly Refused to Shake Bobby Motaung’s Hand

The incident involving former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele and club official Bobby Motaung has sparked conversations among South African football supporters, with questions being raised about what may have happened between the two during Cele’s time at Naturena.

Following the MTN8 final, attention turned to an alleged interaction in which Bobby Motaung approached Cele to greet him, but the midfielder reportedly did not respond by shaking his hand. The incident has attracted interest from fans, particularly those who have followed Cele’s journey and his time at Kaizer Chiefs.

One possible explanation being discussed is that Cele may have been unhappy with the treatment he received while he was still associated with the Soweto giants. Football relationships can become complicated when players feel that their contributions, circumstances or professional expectations have not been handled in the way they anticipated.

For a player, the experience of being at a major club involves more than simply appearing on the pitch. Communication, trust, respect and the relationship between players and management can all influence how a footballer remembers his time at an institution. If Cele felt that he had been treated unfairly during his spell at Naturena, that could help explain why relations may have become strained.

However, it is important to distinguish between speculation and confirmed information. Without a verified statement from Cele explaining his decision, it would be premature to conclude that his reported refusal to shake Motaung’s hand was definitely a direct response to his treatment at Kaizer Chiefs.

The incident nevertheless raises questions about whether unresolved issues from Cele’s time at the club could have influenced the interaction. Supporters will naturally want to understand whether there is a deeper story behind what appeared to be an uncomfortable moment.

For now, the focus remains on the circumstances surrounding the encounter and whether Cele will eventually clarify his side of the story.

What really happened between Thabo Cele and Bobby Motaung? Until the player himself provides a clear explanation, the full reasons behind the reported incident remain unconfirmed.
