Samkelo Zwane Opens Up About His Difficult Journey at Kaizer Chiefs

Samkelo Zwane’s journey at Kaizer Chiefs has been filled with promise, patience and challenges, and the young midfielder has now opened up about his experience as he continues to rebuild his career away from Naturena.

Zwane came through the Kaizer Chiefs Development Academy and was regarded as one of the club’s promising young midfielders. He eventually broke into the senior team, making his professional debut in 2022 and earning opportunities to play alongside some of the club’s established stars.

However, despite his commitment and the respectful approach he has maintained throughout his career, consistent opportunities at senior level proved difficult to secure. His lack of regular game time became an important part of his story, eventually leading to loan moves designed to give him the minutes needed to continue developing.

In September 2025, Chiefs sent Zwane to Siwelele FC on loan, with the club explaining that the move was intended to provide him with much-needed playing time. More recently, in August 2026, Chiefs confirmed another loan move for Zwane, this time to Cape Town-based Hope FC.

Speaking about his situation, Zwane has made it clear that football is not always about talent alone. He previously acknowledged that “no one becomes a footballer to sit on the bench”, while explaining that he had spoken with Chiefs management because regular game time was important for his development.

For a player who has been described as respectful and committed, the journey has understandably been challenging. Yet Zwane has continued to work, remain professional and look for opportunities to prove himself on the pitch.

His recent start at Hope FC has already provided an encouraging moment. Zwane scored on his debut to help his new side secure a 1–0 victory, giving him an opportunity to regain confidence and consistency.

His story is therefore not simply about what happened at Naturena, but also about perseverance. Zwane now has another chapter to write, and his performances away from Chiefs could play an important role in determining what comes next in his career.
