Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has reportedly made a strong statement regarding goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, explaining why the young shot-stopper has not yet been given the responsibility of starting matches for Amakhosi. The comments have sparked debate among supporters, with many fans eager to see Renaldo Leaner given an opportunity between the posts.
According to the reported stance from Da Cruz, Renaldo Leaner is still not considered good enough to start at this stage. The coach’s decision appears to be based on his belief that Renaldo Leaner needs more development, experience and consistency before being trusted with a starting role in competitive matches.
The statement comes at a time when pressure is already building around Kaizer Chiefs’ goalkeeping department. Supporters have been closely watching the performances of the club’s goalkeepers, and every mistake has been placed under the microscope. As a result, many fans have been calling for Renaldo Leaner to be given an opportunity to prove himself.
However, Da Cruz’s reported position suggests that the technical team does not want to rush Renaldo Leaner into the starting lineup simply because of pressure from supporters. From a coaching perspective, giving a goalkeeper a starting position requires confidence, maturity, decision-making and the ability to handle pressure, particularly at a club as demanding as Kaizer Chiefs.
Renaldo Leaner may therefore have to continue working hard in training while waiting for his opportunity. The message from the coach could also serve as motivation for Renaldo Leaner to improve his game and demonstrate that he deserves a place in the starting XI.
For Amakhosi supporters, the situation is likely to remain a major talking point. Some believe Renaldo Leaner should be trusted sooner rather than later, while others agree with Da Cruz that patience is necessary.
Ultimately, the responsibility is now on Renaldo Leaner to respond on the training ground. If Renaldo Leaner can prove to the coaching staff that he has the quality and mentality required, his opportunity could eventually come.
The question now is: Will Renaldo Leaner prove Fernando Da Cruz wrong and force his way into the starting XI? 👀
Yes i believe that Renaldo Leaner can prove Fernando Da Cruz wrong
