Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has reportedly highlighted the importance of Thembinkosi Lorch following today’s friendly match, suggesting that the experienced attacker could play a very important role for the Glamour Boys this season.
Lorch’s arrival at Chiefs has generated plenty of excitement among supporters, particularly because of his ability to operate in different attacking positions and his experience at the highest level of South African football. While expectations around the player are understandably high, Da Cruz appears to believe that Lorch’s qualities could provide Chiefs with something they have been missing.
Speaking after the friendly, Da Cruz shared his thoughts on what Lorch can bring to the team. The coach’s assessment suggests that he sees the former Orlando Pirates star as more than simply another attacking option. His creativity, movement, technical ability and understanding of the game could become valuable assets as Chiefs look to build a stronger and more competitive squad.
For Chiefs, consistency and attacking effectiveness will be crucial. The team will need players capable of creating opportunities, taking responsibility in difficult moments and helping younger teammates develop. Lorch’s experience could therefore prove significant, particularly in matches where Chiefs need an individual capable of changing the rhythm of the game.
The midfielder-turned-attacker has already established himself as one of the most recognisable players in South African football, and a fresh chapter at Naturena could give him an opportunity to rediscover his best form.
Da Cruz’s comments will undoubtedly excite Chiefs supporters, who are hoping to see Lorch become an important part of the club’s plans. If he can remain fit, regain his confidence and consistently produce his best performances, there is a strong possibility that he could become one of the key figures in Chiefs’ campaign.
The friendly may only be part of the preparations for the new season, but Da Cruz’s message is clear: Lorch has the qualities to make a major difference.
For Amakhosi supporters, the big question now is whether Lorch can turn that potential into performances when the competitive matches begin.
