Kaizer Chiefs Announce Another Exit — Fans Did Not See This One Coming

Kaizer Chiefs have continued to make major changes to their squad, and another departure has now been confirmed as the club reshapes its team for the 2026/27 season.

The Soweto giants have already seen several players leave Naturena during what has been a busy period of squad restructuring. With the club looking to build a stronger squad under coach Fernando Da Cruz, difficult decisions have been made regarding the futures of several players.

The latest announcement has once again caught the attention of Amakhosi supporters, particularly because the departure comes at a time when the new season is already underway. Chiefs have been working to create a squad capable of competing for major honours, meaning more changes could still be made.

What makes this latest exit particularly surprising is the player’s relatively recent arrival at the club and the expectations that surrounded him. Supporters had expected him to remain part of the squad, making the announcement an unexpected development.

The player at the centre of the latest announcement is Thabo Cele. Kaizer Chiefs confirmed on Monday that Cele’s contract had been terminated by mutual agreement following discussions between the two parties. The club said the decision would allow the midfielder to pursue new opportunities while Chiefs continue reshaping their squad.

Cele joined Chiefs in January 2025 and went on to make 36 appearances across domestic and CAF competitions during his 18 months with the club. He was also part of the team that won the Nedbank Cup.

His departure now leaves Chiefs with another position to consider as the club continues to assess its squad. Cele’s exit also adds to what has already been a significant period of change at Naturena, with several players moving on during the current rebuilding process.

For Cele, the focus will now shift towards finding his next club. Chiefs, meanwhile, will be hoping that the changes being made behind the scenes eventually translate into stronger performances and a serious challenge for silverware.

The announcement is another reminder that the Amakhosi squad is still evolving, and supporters will be watching closely to see whether this is the final major departure or whether another surprise could still emerge before the transfer activity settles down.
