Abdeslam Ouaddou Reveals He First Applied for Kaizer Chiefs Before Joining Pirates

Abdeslam Ouaddou has opened up about his journey to South African football, revealing that his path could have been very different had things worked out differently with Kaizer Chiefs.

The Orlando Pirates coach explained that before taking the opportunity at Pirates, he had initially applied for the Kaizer Chiefs coaching position. However, according to Ouaddou, the situation did not develop as he had hoped.

“I did apply for Chiefs but things didn’t go accordingly, so luckily Pirates called me.”

The revelation adds an interesting twist to Ouaddou’s arrival in the Premier Soccer League. While Chiefs did not ultimately become his destination, Pirates stepped forward with an opportunity that has allowed him to establish himself at one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

Ouaddou appears to have no regrets about how everything unfolded. Instead, he is grateful that Pirates gave him the chance to continue his coaching journey in South Africa.

The coach also expressed his happiness with his current position, describing Pirates in extremely positive terms.

“Now I’m happy and coaching the best team in SA.”

His comments are likely to generate plenty of discussion among South African football supporters, particularly Chiefs and Pirates fans. The possibility of Ouaddou coaching at Naturena before eventually ending up at Orlando Pirates makes his story even more intriguing.

For Pirates supporters, however, the most important thing is what Ouaddou can achieve in the black-and-white colours. His focus now appears firmly fixed on building a successful team and delivering results.

The revelation also highlights how quickly circumstances can change in football. A coaching opportunity that does not materialise at one club can ultimately lead to an even bigger opportunity elsewhere.

What do you think — would Abdeslam Ouaddou have been a good fit for Kaizer Chiefs, or did Pirates turn out to be the perfect destination for him? 🤔🏴‍☠️
