Cedric Kaze’s departure from Sekhukhune United has raised questions among supporters, particularly because reports suggest that there were significant challenges behind the scenes during his brief spell at the club.
Kaze reportedly arrived at Sekhukhune United hoping to establish himself and build a competitive team, but his time at the club allegedly became difficult from the early stages. One of the claims surrounding his arrival is that he initially had to sleep on a couch at the Team Manager’s house before eventually being accommodated at a hotel.
There were also reportedly disagreements regarding friendly matches, with Kaze allegedly suspended internally after declining certain fixtures. Further reports claim that there were concerns surrounding team selection, including allegations that line-ups were sometimes presented to his assistants and that pressure was placed on the coach to use certain players.
If accurate, such circumstances would naturally create a difficult working environment for any coach trying to establish his authority and implement his own football philosophy.
Kaze also reportedly inherited a squad that had undergone major changes. Around six important players from the previous season had left, meaning the coach was forced to rebuild with the players available to him. He allegedly asked for patience as he worked to create a new team.
Another reported setback came when the strength and conditioning coach left for Simba SC in Tanzania. Despite allegedly requesting a replacement several times, no immediate appointment was made, leaving Kaze to take on additional responsibilities.
There were also reportedly performance targets attached to his contract, with certain expectations after the opening 10 matches. However, claims suggest that disagreements and alleged interference began much earlier than that.
One particular expectation reportedly involved defeating Orlando Pirates, partly because Sekhukhune had beaten Pirates the previous season under the previous coach.
Amid all these claims, reports suggest that Kaze may seek the full compensation stipulated in his contract. Should the matter remain unresolved, FIFA could potentially become involved, depending on the contractual circumstances and the legal steps taken by the coach.
There are also claims that some coaches had warned Kaze to conduct more consultations before accepting the position, believing that insufficient background discussions may have contributed to the difficulties he eventually encountered.
