Kaizer Chiefs could be preparing for another major move in the midfield department, with Edson Castillo reportedly emerging as a potential target should Thabo Cele eventually leave the club.
During discussions surrounding the club on Robert Marawa’s podcast, attention turned to the future of Cele and what Amakhosi could do if the midfielder decides to move on. According to the information being circulated, Kaizer Chiefs are prepared to act quickly and could go all in for a familiar face in Castillo.
The Venezuelan defensive midfielder previously made an impression at Chiefs with his physical presence, composure and ability to provide balance in the middle of the pitch. His departure left a noticeable gap, and a potential return could offer the club an experienced option should they lose Cele.
The latest reports suggest that contact has already been established with Castillo, although no official agreement has been confirmed at this stage. The possibility of bringing him back to Naturena is therefore something that could develop further in the coming weeks, particularly if Cele’s situation changes.
For Chiefs supporters, the potential return of Castillo would certainly be an intriguing development. The midfielder already understands the demands of playing for the club and has experience of the pressure that comes with wearing the famous gold-and-black jersey.
However, everything could depend on what happens with Cele. If the club manages to keep him, a Castillo return may not become a priority. But should Cele depart, Chiefs could reportedly accelerate their efforts to bring the former defensive midfielder back.
For now, fans will have to wait for further developments. What is clear is that the club appears to be considering alternatives and planning ahead, with Castillo potentially emerging as one of the biggest names on their radar if changes occur in the midfield.
