Former Kaizer Chiefs coaches have been sacked by their current clubs

A remarkable coaching storyline is developing around several former Kaizer Chiefs coaches, with Nasreddine Nabi, Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef all finding themselves in very different situations after leaving Naturena.

Nasreddine Nabi has parted ways with Raja Casablanca before even taking charge of a competitive match this season. Reports indicate that the Tunisian coach’s relationship with the club’s sporting hierarchy deteriorated over disagreements surrounding recruitment and the direction of the squad. Nabi reportedly wanted greater influence over transfers, while the club’s decisions did not always align with his plans.

Back in South Africa, Cedric Kaze is also facing a major setback. The former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach is reportedly on the verge of parting ways with Sekhukhune United after only four matches of the new Betway Premiership campaign. Growing tensions over the running of the technical department and footballing decisions have reportedly placed his position under serious pressure. Three successive defeats to Orlando Pirates have further complicated the situation.

Then there is Khalil Ben Youssef, another former Chiefs co-coach who took charge of Durban City. He is currently under pressure following a difficult start to the campaign, with his future becoming a talking point among supporters and football observers. However, Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia has pushed back against reports that the coach had already been earmarked for dismissal, calling such suggestions “nonsense.”

What makes the situation particularly interesting is that Nabi, Kaze and Ben Youssef were all part of the Kaizer Chiefs technical setup. Chiefs officially confirmed the departures of Kaze and Ben Youssef at the end of the 2025/26 season after the pair guided the club to a third-place league finish.

For now, only Nabi’s departure from Raja is being widely reported as completed, while Kaze’s future at Sekhukhune remains uncertain and Ben Youssef continues to face pressure at Durban City. The developments highlight just how unforgiving football management can be once coaches move to new clubs.
