Kaizer Chiefs supporters could be in for an exciting announcement as head coach Fernando Da Cruz appears to have made his decision on who he wants to operate as the club’s No.10 for the 2026/27 season. The position is one of the most important roles in Da Cruz’s attacking system, with the coach looking for a player capable of creating chances, linking midfield with attack and adding creativity in the final third.
Since arriving at Naturena, Da Cruz has made it clear that he wants his players to be tactically flexible. He has also shown a willingness to trust young talent, something that has already become one of the noticeable features of his early tenure at Chiefs.
The No.10 role could therefore become a major part of Chiefs’ plans this season. The player occupying that position will be expected to find spaces between the opposition’s midfield and defence, create opportunities for the forwards and contribute directly to goals and assists.

The 20-year-old has already started showing why he could be trusted with greater responsibility. He scored the winning goal against Scottland FC in the Toyota Cup and has continued to feature prominently under Da Cruz.
Vilakazi has also been used as an attacking midfielder, including in Chiefs’ opening match of the season, where the club officially listed him in the attacking-midfield role.
If Da Cruz officially confirms Vilakazi as his preferred No.10, it would represent a major vote of confidence in the youngster. Rather than simply being viewed as a promising academy product, he would be given greater responsibility to become one of the creative leaders of the new Kaizer Chiefs project.
For Amakhosi supporters, this could be the beginning of a very exciting chapter. Vilakazi has the opportunity to make the No.10 shirt his own and prove that Da Cruz made the right call.
