Deon Hotto has opened up about a touching relationship he has developed with one of his most dedicated supporters, whose unwavering admiration for the Orlando Pirates star has created a special bond that goes far beyond football.
Hotto recalled meeting the supporter, who is originally from Soweto but proudly carries a Namibian flag to Pirates matches as a tribute to the player. Curious about the flag, Hotto approached him and asked where he was from. The supporter explained that although he was from Soweto, he had specifically searched for a Namibian flag because Hotto was his favourite player.
The supporter also revealed that his admiration for Hotto did not begin at Orlando Pirates. He had followed the midfielder’s career since his days at Golden Arrows and had continued supporting him throughout his journey in South African football.
For Hotto, the gesture meant far more than simply seeing a fan wearing a jersey or carrying a flag. He recognised the commitment and loyalty behind it and decided to build a meaningful relationship with the supporter.
Hotto explained that whenever Pirates travel, he makes an effort to ensure that the fan is present. According to the player, the Namibian flag has become a familiar sight in the stands, immediately signalling that his loyal supporter is somewhere in the crowd.
“When we travel, doesn’t matter where we are, I make sure he’s there. You will see the Namibian flag, you know he’s there,” Hotto shared.
