Da Cruz Speaks on Ulrik Fredriksen as Kaizer Chiefs Consider Deal
Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in Norwegian defender Ulrik Fredriksen is attracting attention as the club continues to assess defensive options, with sporting director Fernando Da Cruz understood to be closely involved in discussions surrounding the player.
Fredriksen, 27, currently plays for Fredrikstad FK in Norway’s Eliteserien. The 1.89m right-footed centre-back has established himself as a regular starter and has already made 17 starts in the 2026 league campaign, scoring once.
The defender’s profile is believed to be one of the reasons he has attracted interest from Chiefs. His experience in Norwegian top-flight football, physical presence and ability to operate at the heart of the defence make him an option that could add depth and competition to the Amakhosi backline.
Da Cruz’s view
Da Cruz is understood to be impressed by what Fredriksen could potentially bring to the Chiefs squad. While no official direct quote from Da Cruz has been released, the sporting department is reportedly assessing whether the Norwegian defender fits the club’s plans.
Fredriksen has previously played for Sogndal and Haugesund, making more than 100 Eliteserien appearances for Haugesund before moving to Fredrikstad in March 2025. His current contract with Fredrikstad runs until December 2026.
For Chiefs, the potential move would represent another attempt to bring experience from European football into the squad.
Deal still to be finalised
Despite the growing speculation, a transfer has not been officially confirmed. Any agreement would still have to be reached between the player, Fredrikstad and Kaizer Chiefs.
For now, Fredriksen remains a Fredrikstad player, but his name is increasingly being linked with a possible move to Naturena.
If Chiefs can complete the deal, Da Cruz and the technical team would be adding a defender with considerable Norwegian top-flight experience to their defensive options. ⚽️💛
