Kaizer Chiefs Young Star Attracts Chicago Fire Interest – Mfundo Vilakazi Could Be Heading to MLS
Kaizer Chiefs could potentially face another major decision over one of their brightest young talents, with reports of interest from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire in Mfundo Vilakazi.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has continued to attract attention with his performances for Amakhosi and is regarded as one of the club’s most promising youngsters. Vilakazi has already shown his quality at senior level and recently scored the winning goal as Chiefs defeated Scottland FC 1–0 to lift the Toyota Cup.
Vilakazi’s versatility has also impressed new Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz. The French coach has indicated that the youngster can operate in different attacking positions depending on the team’s tactical setup, potentially giving him an important role during the 2026/27 campaign.
The possibility of a move to Chicago Fire would represent another big step in Vilakazi’s rapidly developing career. However, at this stage, the reported interest should be treated as a rumour rather than a completed transfer, with no official confirmation of a bid or agreement between the clubs.
For Kaizer Chiefs, losing Vilakazi would be a significant blow. The club has been building around promising young talent, and Vilakazi has been tipped to enjoy a breakthrough season at Naturena.
Should concrete interest from Chicago Fire develop into a formal offer, Chiefs would have to decide whether to keep their exciting youngster for the upcoming campaign or consider a potentially lucrative overseas move.
