Kaizer Chiefs could reportedly be preparing an ambitious move to bring former captain Yusuf Maart back to Naturena, with the club understood to be considering a formal bid to his current employers, Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried. The potential return would represent a major statement of intent from Amakhosi as they look to strengthen their midfield and add experience to the squad.
Maart left Kaizer Chiefs in July 2025 after three seasons with the club, joining SV Ried in Austria. During his time at Naturena, the midfielder established himself as an important figure in the team and was eventually handed the captaincy. Chiefs officially confirmed his departure after he made 95 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists.
Since moving to Austria, Maart has continued to develop and has reportedly adapted impressively to European football. His performances for SV Ried have made him one of the club’s regular starters, with reports indicating that he featured in 27 of the club’s first 29 league matches during his debut campaign.
It is this consistency that could now make a potential return complicated. Maart remains under contract with SV Ried until June 2027, meaning Kaizer Chiefs would likely need to negotiate directly with the Austrian club if they decide to make their interest official.
For Chiefs supporters, the possibility of seeing Maart back in the famous Gold and Black would certainly generate excitement. The midfielder already understands the pressure and expectations that come with playing for one of South Africa’s biggest clubs, while his previous experience as captain could provide valuable leadership within the dressing room.
A return would also give Chiefs a player who knows the club, the league and the demands of competing at the highest level in South African football. However, negotiations could depend on SV Ried’s willingness to consider an offer and whether the financial terms meet their expectations.
For now, the reported interest should be treated cautiously until a formal bid or agreement is confirmed. Nevertheless, if Kaizer Chiefs do follow through with their plans and submit an offer, Yusuf Maart could become one of the most intriguing potential returnees of the transfer window.
