Orlando Pirates reportedly accept R56 million bid for Tito Maswanganyi

Orlando Pirates could be on the verge of losing one of their key attacking players, with reports claiming that the Buccaneers have accepted a R56 million offer from Egyptian giants Pyramids FC for Patrick “Tito” Maswanganyi.

The reported development has sent shockwaves through South African football, particularly because Maswanganyi has been regarded as an important part of Pirates’ attacking plans. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has been one of the players expected to take on greater responsibility following the departure of Relebohile Mofokeng.

According to the latest reports circulating, Pyramids have now made a significant financial move for Maswanganyi, with a figure of R56 million being attached to the proposed transfer. If the reported agreement is completed, it would represent a major overseas move for the former SuperSport United player.

Pyramids connection adds intrigue

The reported interest from Pyramids is particularly interesting because the Egyptian club has been linked with several South African players and is coached by Rulani Mokwena, making a potential move for Maswanganyi an intriguing possibility.

Maswanganyi has previously expressed ambitions of playing at the highest level outside South Africa. When he joined Pirates in 2023, the club quoted him discussing his desire to eventually play for a major European club.

However, it is important to note that the R56 million agreement with Pyramids has not been officially confirmed by Orlando Pirates or Pyramids FC at the time of writing. Recent reporting has instead linked Maswanganyi with a possible move to Bahrain, while the latest official Pirates squad information still lists him as a player of the club.

A major decision for Pirates

If the R56 million figure is accurate and the deal has indeed been accepted, Pirates would face the difficult task of replacing a player who has become increasingly influential in their attacking structure.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou recently praised Maswanganyi and highlighted the important role he could play for Pirates following Mofokeng’s departure.

That makes the reported transfer even more significant. Losing Maswanganyi at this stage would force Pirates to reassess their attacking options and could potentially lead to another major signing before the transfer window closes.

For Maswanganyi, meanwhile, a move to Egypt would represent another major step in his career and an opportunity to test himself in a different footballing environment.

For now, the reported R56 million agreement remains unconfirmed, with supporters waiting for official confirmation from the clubs before considering the transfer completed.
