Mfundo Vilakazi: Current Stats, Kaizer Chiefs Contract and Overseas Move

Mfundo Vilakazi continues to attract attention as one of the most exciting young players at Kaizer Chiefs, with the 20-year-old now entering an important stage of his development at Naturena.

The left-footed attacker can operate in several attacking roles, although he is currently listed primarily as a right winger. He has also been used as an attacking midfielder and in the No.10 role, giving Kaizer Chiefs valuable flexibility in the final third.

Current 2026/27 statistics

Vilakazi has made a bright start to the 2026/27 campaign. According to current statistical data, he has made two league appearances, starting one match, with 115 minutes played and one assist. His average FotMob rating is currently 7.48.

His recent performances have included a full 90-minute appearance against Kruger United, where he provided an assist in Chiefs’ 3-1 victory. He also featured against Golden Arrows and Sekhukhune United.

His form at the end of the previous campaign was also encouraging. He scored against Sekhukhune United and registered an assist against AmaZulu, showing why Chiefs continue to view him as an important part of their attacking future.

Contract situation at Kaizer Chiefs

Vilakazi is under contract with Kaizer Chiefs until June 2028. The club officially announced his contract extension in April 2024, securing the teenager’s future at Naturena for several more seasons.

That contract puts Chiefs in a strong position should serious interest arrive from clubs outside South Africa. Current player databases also list his contract expiry as 30 June 2028, with his market value estimated in the region of €660,000–€750,000 depending on the source.

What about an overseas move?

Vilakazi’s performances have naturally led to speculation about a move abroad. There have been reports and social-media claims linking the young attacker with overseas clubs, including interest involving Newcastle United, but there is currently no reliable confirmation that he has agreed a transfer or that an overseas deal is imminent.

For now, the clearest picture is that Vilakazi remains a Kaizer Chiefs player, with a contract running until 2028 and the opportunity to establish himself as one of the club’s leading attacking players.

The next step could therefore depend heavily on his performances this season. If he continues producing goals, assists and match-winning displays, interest from clubs outside South Africa is likely to grow.

At just 20, Vilakazi still has considerable room for development, and Chiefs will be hoping that his best years are still ahead of him. For Amakhosi supporters, the big question is whether the club can keep hold of their young star long enough to see him become one of the biggest names in South African football. ⚽⭐
