Orlando Pirates supporters may have to wait a little longer before seeing new Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen make his highly anticipated competitive debut for the Buccaneers.
Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has provided an important update on the 27-year-old forward, confirming that Pedersen is not yet 100% fit and that the club is taking a cautious approach with his integration into the team. (The Citizen)
Pedersen joined Orlando Pirates from Norwegian side Sogndal during the off-season, arriving with significant expectations. The Buccaneers identified the striker as a player who could help address their finishing problems after creating numerous chances last season but not always converting them efficiently.
Ouaddou has been impressed by what he has seen from the new signing in training. The coach believes Pedersen possesses the qualities required to become an important goalscorer for Pirates and says he did not need a month to recognise the striker’s finishing ability. (Vodacom Soccer)
However, fitness remains the immediate priority.
“The performance department is working closely with him to have him fully ready,” Ouaddou explained, emphasising that Pedersen needs to reach the required physical level before being thrown into competitive action. (The Citizen)
The Pirates coach does not want to rush the Norwegian into action and risk an injury setback. Pedersen is also adapting to a completely new football environment after moving from Norway to South Africa, meaning the technical team is carefully managing his transition.
The situation has become even more significant because Pirates are currently dealing with other attacking options being unavailable. Evidence Makgopa has reportedly been ruled out for around two months with a knee injury, increasing the anticipation surrounding Pedersen’s eventual arrival on the pitch. (Goal)
Despite the delay, there is growing optimism that Pedersen is getting closer. Recent reports indicate that he has continued integrating with the squad and could soon be considered for competitive action. (Soccer Laduma)
For Pirates supporters, the message from Ouaddou is clear: Pedersen is being prepared, not forgotten.
The Buccaneers believe they have signed a natural finisher, but the priority is ensuring that he is physically and mentally ready before making his long-awaited debut. Once he reaches full fitness, expectations will be high for the Norwegian striker to deliver goals and strengthen Pirates’ attack.
