Bafana Bafana Face Injury Concerns Ahead of AFCON

Bafana Bafana are facing a worrying period as several players who formed part of the national team’s World Cup squad are currently dealing with injuries. With the Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon, the growing injury list could present a major challenge for head coach Hugo Broos as he prepares to select his squad for the upcoming international fixtures.

Among the players currently facing injury concerns are Khuliso Mudau, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Evidence Makgopa, Thalente Mbatha, Teboho Mokoena, Bradley Cross, Khulumani Ndamane and Tshepang Moremi. Each player has played an important role in the national team setup, making their availability particularly significant.

Khuliso Mudau’s situation will be closely monitored, given his experience and importance at right-back. Mbekezeli Mbokazi has also emerged as an important defensive option, while Evidence Makgopa provides valuable attacking depth for the national team.

The midfield department could also be affected, with Thalente Mbatha and Teboho Mokoena among those currently dealing with injuries. Mokoena, in particular, has established himself as an influential figure in Bafana Bafana’s midfield, making his fitness a major consideration for Broos.

Bradley Cross is another concern, especially with defensive options already under pressure. Khulumani Ndamane and Tshepang Moremi add further uncertainty to the squad situation.

For Hugo Broos, the timing could hardly be more difficult. AFCON preparations require consistency, tactical planning and a squad capable of competing at the highest level. Injuries can disrupt those plans and force the coach to consider alternative players.

The priority now will be for every injured player to receive the necessary treatment and return safely rather than rushing back too soon. South Africa will be hoping that the majority of these players recover in time to give Broos the strongest possible squad for the challenges ahead.
