Aden McCarthy Could Make Kaizer Chiefs Return After Sabah Loan

Aden McCarthy could reportedly be on course for a return to Kaizer Chiefs, with the young defender potentially leaving Sabah FC on loan as he looks for more regular first-team football.

McCarthy left Naturena earlier this year after completing a permanent move to Azerbaijani club Sabah FC. Chiefs officially confirmed the transfer in June, with the defender signing a three-year deal with the club.

However, his situation could now take another turn. A potential loan move could give McCarthy an opportunity to gain valuable playing time before returning to South Africa, with Kaizer Chiefs emerging as a possible destination.

The 22-year-old defender remains highly regarded by the Amakhosi faithful, having come through the Chiefs setup and impressed during his time with the senior side. A return to Naturena could therefore be an interesting development, particularly if the club believes he can strengthen Fernando Da Cruz’s defensive options.

Sabah are currently competing in UEFA Champions League qualifying, and McCarthy is listed in their squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

At this stage, a return to Kaizer Chiefs should be viewed as a possibility rather than a completed deal. Should the loan move materialise, McCarthy could once again find himself wearing the famous gold and black, potentially giving Amakhosi another option at centre-back.

For Chiefs supporters, the possibility of seeing one of their promising young defenders return will certainly be one to watch. 👀🟡
