Former Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has opened up about his departure from the Soweto giants, revealing that leaving the club was not an easy decision for him. The talented youngster admitted that, at the time, he did not really want to leave Orlando Pirates because of the strong bond he had developed with the club, his teammates, the technical team and, most importantly, the supporters.
According to Mofokeng, however, someone close to the technical team played an important role in helping him make the difficult decision. He revealed that the individual advised him to accept the opportunity in front of him, take the deal and “never look back,” encouraging him to focus on the next chapter of his career rather than being afraid of change.
Mofokeng explained that the advice was difficult to hear at first because Orlando Pirates had become a major part of his football journey and personal development. Nevertheless, he eventually understood that opportunities like this do not come around every day and that he needed to make a decision that would benefit his future.
Despite moving on, Mofokeng made it clear that his appreciation for Orlando Pirates will never disappear. He expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters for everything they have done for him throughout his time in the famous black-and-white colours.
The former Pirates star said he will always have love for the supporters and will never forget the role they played in his career. He also acknowledged the club’s management and coaches, crediting them for believing in him, giving him opportunities and helping him mature both on and off the pitch.
For Mofokeng, Orlando Pirates was more than simply a football club. It was a place where he developed, learned important lessons and grew into the person he is today.
While his future now lies elsewhere, he insists that the memories and relationships he built at Orlando Pirates will remain close to his heart. He believes the club played a significant role in shaping his career and says he will always be grateful for the opportunity to represent the Buccaneers.
Mofokeng’s message is clear: he may have left Orlando Pirates, but he will never forget the club or the people who helped make him the man he is today.
