Velebayi Makes Shocking Admission About Fernando Da Cruz
Kaizer Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi has made a revealing statement about head coach Fernando Da Cruz, giving supporters an insight into what life is like under the French tactician.
Velebayi says one of the biggest things he has noticed since Da Cruz took charge at Naturena is just how demanding the coach can be.
According to the Chiefs attacker, Da Cruz is the type of coach who refuses to allow his players to become comfortable, even when they believe they have already given their best.
«“What I have picked up about coach Da Cruz is that he is a very demanding coach. Even when you feel like you are doing your best, he always wants extra.”»
The comments provide an interesting glimpse into the standards Da Cruz is trying to establish at Kaizer Chiefs. Velebayi’s assessment also suggests that the coach’s demanding approach is having an impact on the squad’s mentality.
Chiefs started the 2026/27 league campaign strongly, winning their opening two matches against Kruger United and Sekhukhune United. Velebayi subsequently said the team’s confidence and mentality were high ahead of the clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Rather than seeing Da Cruz’s demands as a problem, Velebayi appears to view them as part of what is pushing the players to raise their standards.
For Chiefs supporters, the biggest question will be whether that demanding mentality can translate into consistent performances and silverware as the season progresses.
