Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has finally addressed the growing uncertainty surrounding Thabo Cele and his absence from the club’s squad, providing an important update during an appearance on the Robert Marawa podcast.
With speculation continuing to circulate around the midfielder’s future, including reports linking him with a possible move to Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Jr moved to clarify the situation. According to his comments, Cele remains a Kaizer Chiefs player, putting to rest the claims that the midfielder has already decided to leave Naturena.
The sporting director explained that the situation between the player and the club is still being discussed internally, with both parties continuing to work towards an agreement. While Cele has not been involved with the squad as expected, his current status should not automatically be interpreted as confirmation of a transfer.
Kaizer Chiefs are understood to remain in communication with the player and his representatives as they attempt to resolve the outstanding matters. The club’s position is that Cele remains part of the team, while discussions continue behind the scenes.
Importantly, the latest update also provides hope for Amakhosi supporters who have been waiting to see the midfielder back on the training ground. Once an agreement is reached between Cele and the club, he is expected to return to training and continue his career with Kaizer Chiefs.
For now, the Sundowns rumours remain unconfirmed, while Cele’s future appears to depend on the outcome of ongoing discussions with the club. The coming days could therefore prove decisive as Kaizer Chiefs look to resolve the situation and bring the talented midfielder back into the fold.
