Atlético Madrid have seemingly drawn a firm line regarding the future of Julián Álvarez, with club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín making it clear that the Argentine forward will not be sold to FC Barcelona while he remains in charge of the Spanish club.
Speaking to Movistar, Gil Marín delivered an emphatic response when discussing the possibility of Álvarez eventually moving to Barcelona. The Atlético chief insisted that, based on his long experience in football, he has no intention of allowing the player to be transferred to the Catalan giants.
“I’ve been in the football world for more than 30 years and as long as I am CEO, Julián Álvarez will NOT be transferred to FC Barcelona. That is absolutely certain,” Gil Marín stated.
His comments go beyond simply rejecting a potential immediate transfer. The Atlético hierarchy appears determined to prevent negotiations with Barcelona in future transfer windows as well, effectively shutting down the possibility of a direct move between the two clubs for one of their most valuable attacking players.
Gil Marín also expressed strong frustration over what he described as a lack of ethics, making Atlético’s position particularly clear.
“We are outraged and disgusted by the lack of ethics. We are not going to negotiate with Barcelona — the only firm decision is that we will NOT negotiate with Barcelona, that’s for sure,” he added.
Álvarez remains one of the most important figures in Atlético’s attacking plans, having established himself as a world-class forward following his successful spell at Manchester City and his achievements with Argentina.
Barcelona have frequently been linked with elite attacking players as they continue to plan for the future, but if Gil Marín maintains his current position, Álvarez could be one name that is simply unavailable to them.
For Atlético supporters, the message is straightforward: the club does not intend to open the door for negotiations with Barcelona over Álvarez — whether the interest arrives in the next transfer window or several years from now.
For now, the message from Atlético Madrid is clear: the doors are CLOSED.
